Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

This is an outstanding recipe built around Kentucky bourbon whiskey can be ready in as little as 45 minutes. For best results, refrigerate for a day or so to allow the flavors to meld together.

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

The Ingredients

  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 4 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 teaspoon hot sauce, or to taste

The Process

  1. Combine onion, garlic, and whiskey in a large skillet. Over medium heat, simmer for 10 minutes, or until onion is translucent.

  2. Add ground black pepper, salt, ketchup, tomato paste, vinegar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and hot sauce.

  3. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain sauce for a smooth sauce otherwise use as is.
